Day 01
Flight to Paro – Drive to Thimphu
Arrive in Paro by Druk Air, where you will be greeted with breathtaking views of the Himalayan Mountains. After completing immigration formalities, your guide will transfer you to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan, situated about 55 km away (approximately 1.5 hours). En route, enjoy the scenic drive through the Paro Valley, passing the confluence of the Paro and Thimphu rivers at Chuzom. Once in Thimphu, relax at your hotel and take the rest of the evening to explore the local surroundings.
Day 02
Thimphu Sightseeing
After breakfast, embark on a guided tour of Thimphu. Visit the National Memorial Chorten, a monument dedicated to world peace and prosperity, and explore its beautiful interior murals and statues. Next, head to the National Library, which houses ancient Buddhist texts and manuscripts. You will also visit the Institute for Zorig Chusum (the Arts & Crafts School), where students practice traditional Bhutanese arts. Later, visit the Tashichhodzong, the majestic fortress-monastery that houses the government offices and the throne room of the King. In the evening, stroll through the local market and enjoy the sights and sounds of Thimphu.
Day 03
Thimphu – Punakha
After breakfast, depart for Punakha, a picturesque town nestled between the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. The drive will take you over the Dochula Pass (3100m), offering panoramic views of the eastern Himalayas, including Bhutan’s highest peak, Gangkar Punsum. Upon arrival, visit the Punakha Dzong, an architectural masterpiece built at the confluence of the two rivers. The Dzong served as the capital of Bhutan until the 1950s and remains an important spiritual and administrative center.
Day 04
Punakha – Trongsa
Today, you will drive to Trongsa, a historic town located in central Bhutan. Along the way, enjoy the beautiful landscapes of rice fields and traditional Bhutanese villages. Upon arrival in Trongsa, visit the Trongsa Dzong, a massive fortress that played a key role in Bhutan’s history. It offers a stunning view of the surrounding valley and is home to the Museum of Bhutanese Heritage.
Day 05
Trongsa – Bumthang
After breakfast, depart for Bumthang, the cultural heart of Bhutan. The drive takes you through the winding roads of central Bhutan, offering scenic views of the valley and forests. Upon arrival in Bumthang, check in to your hotel and relax. Bumthang is known for its rich cultural heritage, including ancient temples, monasteries, and picturesque landscapes.
Day 06
Sightseeing in Bumthang
Today, explore the Bumthang Valley, home to some of Bhutan’s most significant temples and monasteries. Visit the Jambay Lhakhang, one of the oldest temples in Bhutan, built in the 7th century. You will also visit the Kurje Lhakhang, a sacred site where Guru Rinpoche meditated, and the Tamshing Lhakhang, known for its ancient wall paintings. In the afternoon, enjoy a relaxing walk through the village, taking in the tranquil atmosphere and beautiful landscapes.
Day 07
Sightseeing in Bumthang / Excursion to Ura Village and Swiss Farm
In the morning, take a scenic drive to Ura Village, a remote and traditional village that offers a glimpse into the rural life of Bhutan. The village is famous for its preserved architectural style, with its houses built in the traditional Bhutanese style using stone and wood. Afterward, visit the Swiss Farm, a fascinating organic farm located in the heart of Bumthang. The farm specializes in producing high-quality products, including cheese and apples, and offers a peaceful retreat into nature.
Day 08
Bumthang – Gangtey
Depart Bumthang for Gangtey, a beautiful valley located in central Bhutan. The valley is famous for its Gangtey Gompa, a 17th-century monastery that is the only Nyingmapa monastery in western Bhutan. Upon arrival, take a leisurely walk through the valley and enjoy the breathtaking views of the surrounding hills and fields. You may also spot the Black-necked Cranes, which migrate to this valley in the winter.
Day 09
Gangtey – Paro via Wangduephodrang
Drive back to Paro, passing through the town of Wangduephodrang. Take a moment to visit the Wangduephodrang Dzong, a fortress perched on a hill with stunning views of the surrounding valley. Continue your journey to Paro, where you will check into your hotel. In the evening, relax and enjoy a leisurely dinner.
Day 10
Paro Sightseeing
Today, explore the beautiful town of Paro. Visit the Drugyel Dzong, a historic fortress that once defended Bhutan from Tibetan invasions. From here, you can enjoy stunning views of Mount Chomolhari (7320m). Continue to the Ta Dzong, a former watchtower that now houses the National Museum of Bhutan. The museum offers a fascinating collection of Bhutanese art, artifacts, and historical relics. End your day with a visit to the Rinpung Dzong, an impressive fortress and monastery that serves as the administrative center of the Paro District.
Day 11
Hike to Taktsang Monastery
Embark on a scenic hike to the Taktsang Monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest. This iconic monastery is perched on the edge of a cliff 800 meters above the Paro Valley and is one of Bhutan’s most sacred sites. The hike takes about 2-3 hours uphill, passing through forests of pine and oak. Once at the monastery, enjoy the spiritual atmosphere and stunning views. Afterward, return to Paro for some leisure time.
Day 12
Transfer to Airport for Departure
After breakfast, your guide will transfer you to the Paro International Airport for your departure flight. Reflect on your memorable journey through Bhutan’s breathtaking landscapes, cultural treasures, and spiritual heritage as you head to your next destination.
