NMA Announces New Climbing Royalty Fees and Insurance Services – Effective 2025

The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) has released an official notice regarding upcoming changes to peak royalty fees and insurance services for climbers and mountain guides.

The notice, issued on 16 February 2025 (Reference No. 110.1008/081/082), outlines new rates and policies that will go into effect on the following dates:

  • Mountain guide insurance: Effective 1 March 2025

    Peak royalty fees: Effective 1 September 2025

These changes apply to climbing expeditions on NMA-managed peaks up to 6,500 meters.

NMA Peak Royalty Fee Structure

Effective from 1 September 2025

For Foreign Climbers:
  • Spring season: USD 375
  • Autumn, Summer, or Winter: USD 175
For Nepali Climbers:
  • Spring season: NPR 20,000
  • Autumn season: NPR 10,000
  • Winter/Summer: NPR 5,000

Garbage Deposit:
Remains unchanged under the new notice.

Insurance Services for Mountain Guides

 

Effective from 1 March 2025, the NMA will implement new insurance policies for mountain support staff. The coverage includes:

  1. Accidental injury medical emergencies
  2. Helicopter rescue assistance
Eligible Groups:
  • Sardars (expedition leaders)
  • Senior Support Climbers
  • Support Climbers
Cost:
  • Insurance premium: NPR 8,500
  • Additional service fee for foreign climbers: NPR 2,000

→ Total for foreign guides: NPR 10,500

  • 📌 Note:
  • This insurance is provided through NMA’s program for resource members. However, trekking agencies may choose a different insurance provider if they can submit valid proof of equivalent coverage.
